Morning Matcha Review: Common Rags (333 Matcha) in Oak Cliff
By Marcus Muniz
Introduction
Welcome back to another morning matcha review with Marcus. Today’s feature brings us to the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, where we explore Common Rags—also known as 333 Matcha. This venue is a unique blend of a matcha bar and a religious attire boutique, creating an atmosphere that reflects both creativity and faith. Coincidentally, I attended high school with Ethan, one of the co-managers and designers of the attire sold in the store. Reconnecting with him and learning about their business journey added a personal layer to this visit, though I want to emphasize that my review remains unbiased and grounded in honesty to maintain credibility.
Ethan shared that he and his business partner Ryan began the store about a year after graduating high school. Their vision centered on combining their faith with their passions. Ryan, the matcha expert of the duo, initially expressed uncertainty about merging fashion and matcha into a single business model. Despite his concerns, he trusted in the Lord throughout the process, and four years later, their business continues to thrive under that foundation.
Matcha Review
I ordered the strawberry matcha—my go‑to drink when trying new matcha venues. My friends sampled other offerings, including the Einspanner matcha and the original matcha. Across the board, the drinks were impressive. The consistency of the matcha was smooth, the milk‑to‑matcha ratio was balanced, and the flavor profiles were vibrant without being overpowering.
My overall matcha rating: 11/11 (yes, that is an angel‑number joke).Venue Evaluation
The venue itself is both classy and creatively designed. Upon entering, customers are greeted by the matcha stand, with the boutique of religious attire positioned to the right. While the concept is cohesive and visually appealing, the space is not designed as a study environment. As someone who prefers matcha venues that double as study spots, this layout does not fully meet that preference. Additionally, seating is limited, making it less ideal for larger groups or extended hangouts.
Venue rating: 8/10
Overall Experience
My overall experience at 333 Matcha was a 9/10. The matcha quality was exceptional, and I have no critiques regarding flavor or preparation. While I do wish the portion sizes were slightly larger—similar to Hyphen Space—the pricing felt fair for what was offered. I also appreciated the boutique’s integration of faith into the space. Many businesses avoid openly displaying religious identity due to consumer concerns, but Common Rags embraces it with confidence and authenticity.
I highly recommend that fellow matcha enthusiasts visit Common Rags (333 Matcha) and experience this distinctive venue for themselves.
