A Taste of Japan... in Waco, Texas?

Matcha Morning with Marcus: Around the World Waco Review

Welcome back, my Matcha Mob!

This week, we are taking a little detour down to Waco, Texas. If you did not know, I attend Baylor University, and I am in my final year, graduating on December 19, 2026. I spend most of my time here in Waco, and on weekends I usually head back home to Dallas to try new matcha spots so I can bring y’all fresh reviews.

But this week was packed with helping organizations prepare for weekend events, so I could not make the trip home. Luckily, I found a nearby café that serves matcha, Around the World Wacoand you already know we had to review it.

First Impressions

119 N. 12th Street, Waco, TX 76701

The moment you walk in, you are greeted by the warm, sweet smell of pastries. Around the World Waco is known for its desserts inspired by cultures around the globe, and yes, I absolutely tried one.

I went for the Mexican Flan, a rich, silky, caramel‑topped egg custard made with condensed and evaporated milk for that creamy texture. It was a solid 9/10 for me. I will admit, I am a little biased because nobody makes flan better than my Abuelita, but this one held its own.

The Aesthetics

The café is small, cozy, and clearly designed with students in mind. You know I love a good study‑friendly matcha venue, or in this case, café venue. I saw students studying with their matchas, friends doing taste tests, and plenty of people enjoying the calm atmosphere.

I also enjoyed a little people‑watching moment, which always adds to the experience.

Overall venue rating: 8/10
A bit small, but not Chasen‑small.

THE MATCHA REVIEW

Alright Matcha Mob, here is the moment you have been waiting for:

Before I get into my drink, I have to highlight one unique menu item: the Banana Pudding Matcha. I have never seen that flavor anywhere before, and I thought it was such a creative twist.

But for this review, I ordered the Japan Matcha, their ceremonial grade matcha latte and they offered a iced or hot version.

  • Iced: topped with homemade strawberry jam and honey foam
  • Hot: homemade strawberry jam and honey placed at the bottom of the cup

I got the iced version, I didn't think it would be fair to review a hot matcha version since all of the my matchas have been iced. Nonetheless, I absolutely loved it. The textures were perfect, the matcha consistency was smooth, and the portion size was worth the price. This matcha was a solid 10/10.

Now, does it compare to Hyphen Space?
No.
But it was still incredibly delicious.

Final Thoughts

Alright my Matcha Mobsters, I hope you enjoyed this week’s matcha review. Again, I apologize for not being able to travel back to Dallas this weekend, but I will definitely be doing so during Easter weekend.

Until next time on Matcha Morning with Marcus, as always…

Stay curious, and stay green!
